The new look Saints senior team beat The Nth Shore Tigers in a nail biting finish, winning by 3 points in perfect conditions at Bayswater Reserve last Sunday.
With only 6 out of last year’s preliminary final team on the field and four playing their first game of AFL football it was a fantastic result for the club. The Tigers have obviously recruited well with many experienced AFL players in their line up which made tis win even more satisfying.
Marcus Jones returned first his first game since 2004 to be best on ground closely followed by first gamer Cam Mitchell. Mike Tag and Wade Burfoot were twin towers up forward kicking three goals each. Mike Boyce in his first senior game for the club played well in defence. Otherwise it was a good even performance all around the field with every player contributing at some stage.
Congratulations to the North Shore Council with the work they have put into Bayswater Reserve. The surface was like a bowling green, which greatly contributed to one of the most high quality games of local AFL football seen for quite some time.

Our Reserves grade team containing 10 first game players put up a mighty effort before just going down to the Tigers. The Saints got to within a couple of points before The Tigers kicked away in the final 10 minutes of the game.
Matt Spackman played a great first game for the Saints, as did Dan Robinson, Cam Mitchell and Adam Brunt. Pete and Mike Boyce lead from the front in he mid field and 13 year old Karl Krauss showed he will be a star of the future gaining many possessions on the wing.

A great first up effort by both teams.
