Seniors

An ill-disciplined display cost the Saint’s any chance of knocking off the previously undefeated Magpies in Sundays clash at Parrs Park. The two evenly matched sides traded scoring opportunities during the first quarter with the Magpies converting their chances to take a two goal lead into the second quarter. The Saints chances where then dealt a blow when reduced to 17 players early on in the second quarter. The Magpies failed to take full advantage with a number of wasted scoring opportunities leaving the Saints only 3 goals behind at half time. Jarrod Wallace and Lewis Hurst where again leading the way with youngster’s Liam Ackland and Adam Brunt and the veteran Peter Boyce finding space up forward. A gutsy effort and some inspired team changes from the Coach saw the undermanned Saints take the lead with a 6 to 2 goal burst in the 3rd Quarter with ‘sticky fingers’ Steve Fairweather dominating up front and ‘the Wall’ Wes Allan rebounding off the half back line. The final term was an arm wrestle with teams trading early goals , it was always going to be tough ask for a tiring Saints who’s cause was not helped with numerous 50 meter penalties. The Magpies managed to score a couple of late goals and run out winners by 7 points.

Reserves

A good turn out of players fronted for the Reserves clash in what were ideal football conditions at Parrs Park. The Magpies lineout although lacking numbers included a number of senior players which provided for a high standard and flowing game of football. The Saints dominated possession all day and only for some wayward kicking in front of goal keeping the Magpies in touch. A solid team effort saw the Saints run our comfortable winners by 28 points with standout performances from the young brigade Chad Bedford , Carl Krause , Dan Robinson , Sam Mckenzie and Brian Twitchett.
