Seniors
University at home was always going to be a difficult task, especially in terrible conditions and with 10 players missing; this was going to be a true test of character for the Sainters.

Kicking into what could only be described as a gale force wind in the first quarter, the Saints started well to hold University to the solitary goal. We were very unlucky to not have a Peter Boyce shot at goal rewarded and the Saints went into the first break only a goal down.

The Saints kicked an early goal through a long bomb from Adam in the second quarter and the momentum was certainly with the Saints. This however changed pretty quickly as Uni pressed forward and when Josh McKenzie was blood binned and the game allowed to continue whilst he was off, University scored a goal before we had a player back on the field to replace Josh. This along with unfortunate injuries to Pete Jenson (knee) and Lewis Hurst (heel) wrestled the momentum away and Uni kicked another four goals for the quarter into a strong breeze.

Throughout the third quarter the Saints battled extremely well again into the wind. Morgan Jones was picking up plenty of touches and driving the ball forward. He was well supported by Marcus Jones, Peter Boyce and Mike Tagg. Lewis Hurst went into the backline on Taverna and held him to one goal for the quarter. During this quarter there were periods of time where the Saints dominated the play, but couldn’t break through the forward line and get the required score on the board.

With so many players out and a few players playing their first game of seniors for the year, Zane, Nutty, Callum the last quarter continued to be a slog for the Saints and eventually University ran out 10 goal winners.

The Saints can hold their heads up high despite the loss, with so many players out it was good to see the Saints control the play for substantial periods of the game.

Reserves
A fairly similar result for reserve grade with many of our bigger bodied more experienced players called up to the senior team our under 17 players stepped up to play reserves. After being blown away in the first quarter the Sainters battled on bravely in the last three, even managing to out score the opposition in the last term.
