Reserve Grade

With a reasonably settled line up over the past three weeks the reserves team is really starting to gel together highlighted by some fantastic passages of play in their impressive semi final win over The Raiders.
The team were led again by their mobile, mid field brigade of Ben Hick, Ian Graham, Chris Hilder and Grayson Hart who provide their forwards with plenty opportunities. Mark Johnson and Rich Horsley up forward gave the team multiple scoring options, which were accurately capitalized on. It was an impressive score-line given the extremely windy conditions.
Also doing their part and restricting the Raiders to only 5 behinds were the back-line led by Aaron Shields and fast improving, reliable Billy Bedford.
With 18 of the 20 players in the team 20 years old and under (including three players 16 years and under) and 15 players in their first or second season of AFL football it’s great to see our reserves not only back playing finals but also progressing beyond the semi final stage.

Seniors
The Saints senior team also had a great win completely shutting out the tough and aggressive Magpies on the weekend. The backline continued it’s miserly ways led by Jarrad Wallace and Ben Jansen along with Adam Brunt who had his best game for the club at half-back. Leaving Adam lose in the back half was not a good move by our opponents as he continually ran through the mid field delivering the ball deep into attack on many occasions. Two of his runs were spectacular one finishing in a goal and another a point. In what would have been the goal of the season Adam took possession of the ball at half-back and ran off to receive two handballs before narrowly missing the big sticks.
Liam Ackland had another great game. After been given a tagging role early on he was still able to unleash his attacking skills kicking a couple of great goals as well as running hard through the mid field and delivering the ball into all the right areas for our forwards.
Paul Munt continued his good form from last week , who along with Dave Kay and big Michael Johnson worked really hard around the middle of the ground.
Having three or more tall options up forward is making the team harder to match up on for our opponents and has reflected in the score-lines over the past month.
As you would expect there will be another step up in the quality of opposition as we head over the bridge to take on North Shore this Sunday. Both teams will be looking forward to their up coming challenges.
