Saints clip eagles wings

On a day that was wetter than Zac' girlfriend, coach Matthew "high pitch" Kemp made the bold decision to send out his water polo team (all of which also played footy). The Saints contingent looking a little light on numbers after some late withdrawls from the side , including Tabe "princess" voigt who decided to attend his own "charlies angles" themed baby shower , David "grim reaper" Kuss who was being deported after it was found he was in fact a somalian overstayer , and Adam "fergalishis" Brunt who was busy making banners for his black eyed peas concert. But even with a few men down the saints started solid enough pushing out to a 3 goal lead by the end of the first stanza. The sound of the whistle brought the second quarter and roskill rebel Brendan "lone wolf" Clark who had been doing the rounds at the local playground with his bag of candy. By now the ball was heavier than Liam "golden nuts" Ackland's head and slipperier than Ben "no show" Jansens waxed chest , proving difficult to control. Nevertheless it was the latest player to come out of retirement Ian "the knee" Francis who took control and steered the Red and white machine around the oval . At halftime supercoach Kemp sprayed his team with a mixture of profanaties and Klingon , driving home patience, loyalty and respect. The Sainters rallied into position for the third round but it was the Eagles who got off to a flyer. With only 2 goals now seperating the two teams the saints needed something special , and special they did get. Tom "the bounced one" who had let in a few soft goals took charge by taking a beautiful mark in the backline to halt the eagles momentum . The mighty Mount boys managed to secure a few more 6-pointers through inspirational captain Dave "Taxi" Kay and mount roskill's only vietnam veteran Peter "hoo raa" Boyce which broke the sprit of the Eagles. 20 minutes left on the clock and the game was all but sealed , though not a huge lead the conditions meant that there was going to be no easy goals . Takapuna tried in vain but the Saints backmen Richie "copperfeild" Horsley and Ben "fabio" Kairo ensured their team came out on top . While it was an ugly win, it showed the Roskill men are willing to grind out a game, and with arch rivals Uni being beaten by Waitakere it puts the saints up equal on the top of the ladder. This sunday the Manly Men from May Road take on bottom of the table Manurewa at home, which promises to be entertaining spectacle.
