Round 6 - Saints March All Over Filthy Magpies
Yesterday's game capped off a bad week for West Auckland, on wednesday a child was abducted and is still missing , saturday a murder , and sunday brought the desolation of their AFL team .
Waitakere fancied their chances after beating university blues a few weeks back , but they had forgotten to take into account one thing - The return of Ian "smoking gun" Francis. The 34 year old "ageless" Francis who came out of retirement for the second time this season declared in an exclusive one on one interview earlier this week "am I a great man? yes, but I am a simple man , and I will win the premiership this year , not for myself , but for the kids who look up to me and idolise me " . And yesterday he got his team on track to do just that (check out full interview at the bottom of the page).
Also turning up late again, Brendan "pops" Clark showed he has his priorities in order , after only hours early cutting the umbilical cord of his first child with his teeth , showed up ready to roll .
Early in the game mount roskill exploded in a fireball of awsomeness as they got out to a 4 goal lead in the first 10 minutes of the game . Great touches by David "the aussie skytower" Kuss and Lewis "grim reaper" Hurst provided some easy marks for saints full-foward Tabe "pies" voigt , who was looking a little fatter after swallowing so many high balls which were quickly turned into points .
By the break it was Roskill up 6 goals to 1 . But the boys from balmoral new that they couldnt let the magpies in with a sniff or it would be a hard day at the office . Playing into the wind in the second 20 Roskill started well again Roskill poster boy Matthew "ka-ching" Kemp getting on the scoresheet along with Liam "orphan" Ackland who found some mid season form kicking two for the day .
By halftime the potent stench of winning was surrounding the Saints men but a few quick riddles from Peter "the woman eater" boyce soon let them know that there was stil work to be done . Now some say defence wins games , and if this is true the saints have to thank backmen such as Ian "too much" Graham , Ben "white pony" Jenson and the ball-devouring, love-hurricane Tom "marley" Sheenhan who made waitakere ginger star Mat Hackett look like a novice .
The third quarter has been where the saints let teams back in , but not on this occasion . Midway through the quarter big forward pocket Bjorn "the brawn" had a chance to snatch his first goal of the season but sprayed wide to just take the behind. The saints continued their Globe-Trotter style play pushing the final lead of more than 6 goals .
Next week's round puts the Mighty Mount Mafia up againts the North shore pussycats and we have a sit down chat with half back Adam "ling" Brunt. It will also be Roskill's last game before they face the only team to beat them this year, uni blues . The Saints are beginning to gel and if they continue to build on their latest performances they look like hot contenders for the flag and never-ending greatness.
