A song by 80's nz/oz rockband Dragon once asked "are you old enough", and on sunday 16yr old Zac "dead eye" answered that question with an "ooooo yeah ". The pint sized fireball kicked 6 of the sexiest goals in Roskill History in a one sided replay of last years semi final.
It was a dreary old day which blew harder than B.J's mum and short spells of rain meant that it was going to be hard to keep control of the pig hide. But as per usual the Roskillites got underway early through mighty boot of Zac .
The saints showed early dominance in the ruck with Dave "Tua" Kay and Dave "screamer" Kuss providing a solid platform for their team-mates to run off. By the end of the first quarter it was the saints leading five goals to one with 6 pointers going to Andy "hes baaack" Mac, Ben "loverboy" Kairo and last weeks standout Ian "panda eyes" Francis, who along with fellow on baller Lewis "Lewis" Hurst opened up several cans of whoop ass on defence. On one occasion in a Hurst tackle a worried spectater thought he actually heard the sound of the opposition's kidney splitting as he hit the ground, when asked about the tackle after the game Hurst replied "everyone knows not to run at my right shoulder, i have no control over it, it likes to hurt people".
At the start of the second, with the saints looking into a fierce wind it was the tigers who started the scoring which sent some panic through the Roskill camp. But they soon got back on track through young Zac and newly engaged coach Matthew "I do " Kemp.
At halftime like clockwork Peter "godfather" Boyce stepped in with some sweetly muttered words and calmed the boys down and refocused them on the game plan. With the wind again at their back, the Ros-killers set about extending the scoreboard to an unreachable target, and while the saints scoreboard showed their attacking prowess, the Tigers scoreboard showed the proof of hardwork from the back line. With only 15 points it was the usual suspects of Jansen, Sheenan and Graham saving the skins of the saints. Another man who seemed to work tirelessly was the "godfather's" prodigy Michael "ferrit" Boyce, like a rabbit on methamphetamines, covering most of the field in a selfless display of good old fashion hard yakka.
In the final quarter with low moral the Tigers showed no bite as they began getting humped like a white boy in prison. The final 10 minutes was less like an AFL game and more like a school yard, with captain Dave "cameron" Kay the teacher as he taught his opposite a lesson in fisticuffs. It was good to see a bit of mongrel in the Roskill camp and reminds me of my playing days in Queensland.
While the scorecard read 101 to 15, there wasn't the same fluidity as the previous two weeks. The saints are looking good for a premiership this year but will need to keep lifting there performance every week if they want to finish on top.
Also on behalf of the Mount Roskill Saints , we would like to congratulate our Saints brother, Matt Kemp who got engaged earlier in the week. We all wish you the best and look forward to each receiving invites to the big occasion.
Roving reporter out.....

- 2 points - Deano - has really lifted the sexyness of the team since his arrival.
- 3 points -Zac - unbelieveble game , showed why he's the best U45kg player in NZ

This Weeks Super Saint Sit Down of the week - Adam "beefy " Brunt
If you scan your eyes down the field at a Saints game you come across a backman with steel in his eyes, sporting a buzz cut and being carted around the field by his 93kg frame, number 35 draws some attention from the rest of the pack. He is 28 year old Adam Brunt and his road to Saints stardom hasn't been an easy one. Growing up on the mean streets of New Plymouth, he was more likely to be found playing craps down a back alley than with a footy in his hand.
Childhood friends say that Brunt wasn't much of an athlete at school and by age 14 was being toted by local police as possibly becoming the biggest druglord in New Plymouth's history. But after a move up north he somewhat cleaned up his act and began playing cricket and soccer before finding his niche at the Mt Roskill Saints football club. With his un-complicated, get-it-done style of play he is the "cool head" of the back line. But off field money troubles due to gambling debts has threatened the future career of this rough diamond. The saints had a board meeting earlier this year to decide his fate after "fixing" a pre-season golf tournament, where he is said to have walked away with four Black Eyed Peas concert tickets valued at over $100. However on the paddock there is no denying his talent and loyalty to the mighty Saints. Over the last few years Brunt has become the linchpin of the Roskill team and will be vital if the Saints hope to bring home the flag this year. We sat down earlier in the week with the man himself to ask him a few questions:
R.R - "So Adam, do you think the saints have a chance at winning the premiership this year?"
A.B - "I will bet you fifty bucks that we will. You keen? "
R.R - " Ahh no thanks, but goodluck. How do you prepare for a match these days?"
A.B - "Pretty simple really , I listen to "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas, then go online and play poker."
R.R - "What motivates you to go out every week and put your body on the line?"
A.B - "Well, as you know I have had some bad gambling debts, so I am hoping to make it in the AFL to pay them off, im putting all my eggs into that basket really."
R.R -"Whats something that your fans dont know about you?"
A.B - "I have a leather fetish."
R.R - "I was thinking more about AFL"
A.B-"Sorry, ummmmm I am very superstitious, I always put my right sock on first, and I always sit down to pee the morning of the game."
R.R -"Well Adam, thankyou for your time and I wish you the best for the rest of your season."
NEXT WEEKS SUPER SAINT SIT DOWN IS WITH VETERAN SAINT AND FALCON , LEWIS HURST
