After a terrible showing on Sunday and a growing injury list the Saints chances of winning the premiership are again beginning to remind me of Zac’s mother - a bit iffy, but could still be done.

The Mt Roskill Saints day looked bad from the beginning with only 6 seniors at the game with 15 minutes before the start of play. To make matters worse in the reserves game Saints wingman Dean "Mr Stumbles" Marsland got knocked into yesterday, putting him out of contention for the later game. The Roskillians took the field with 1 man down.

Feeling uneasy the boys were seen looking to the trees, willing Andy "The Entrance" Mac to turn up with his usual cool swagger. But, he wasn’t coming and I think deep down the Mount men knew it.

The first goal for the Saints took just seconds as the Manurewa defence spread like Ben "X.T.C" Jansen's butt cheeks at a swingers party, however the Raiders hit back straight away and it was a fierce tussle to the first quarter, the saints leading 22-21. Saints coach Matt "Phantom" Kemp laid down the law but it was always going to be hard to get a message across when you look like a cross between Freddie Krueger and Michael Jackson.

The second quarter brought more hard work for the Saints and another brilliant performance by umpire Joel. Quickly developing a cult status in the A.A.F.L community, Joel was often heard ordering "that’s fifty", "that’s high" and "1st warning 36".

By the half the Saints had managed a 20 point lead but come the final quarter there was only 8 points in it. The boys from Gloucester Park (formerly May Road) made life difficult for themselves and it wasn’t until familiar hero Ian "Jordan of AFL" Francis wrestled though 2-15 defenders to score a goal was the game put out of reach of the Raiders.

With the semi finals this week and a huge injury list including Dave "Poles" Kuss (groin), Dave "Knuckles" Kay (hand), Ian "M.V.P" Francis (hamstring) plus the unavailability of Adam "The Man" Brunt and Tom "Shagga" Sheehan, this week looks to be a huge task against University. The Saints will need to summon all of their super saiyan strength if they stand a chance of taking the easy route to the granny. Roving reporter out.

3 points - Joel - There’s no keeping this rogue umpire out of the game, if his whistle was a man, he would be one happy customer, he got blown over 100 times in 80 minutes.
