Mount Roskill is soon becoming known as the family club of the AAFL with plenty of wags, children and in Richard Horsleys case, dial-a-date's turning up to the pre-season event of the year.

On a wet, cold day the Saints contingent got together to share a few laughs and join in a game of good old fashion lawn bowls, Michael Boyce however was bitterly disappointed after getting the wrong idea when he was told that he was going to get his balls out and see who could get them closest to the Jack.

After grabbing a pint, bag of nuts and a peanut slab the boys, girls and dial-a-dates went out to the green to get rolling. A few ends in and it was clear that team "Dojo Panda kai 2", fronted by Dr BJ "Spanky" Jansen was the team to beat, quickly disposing "The Pacemakers" then "The Jarrad Wallace Trio" . But sooner than you could yell "Hey Zac, has your mum said anything about me?" the heavens opened up and the bowlers were told by organiser Adam "commy" Brunt to "Get your end away then get inside out of the bloody rain".

In out of the rain the Sainters snuggled up in the warm, and shared tall tales of when days were simpler. Ian "double trouble" Francis spoke of his days whittling cricket bats out of logs found in his father's wood shed in Adelaide and Peter "silver fox" Boyce spoke of the night young Michael was concieved in the back of a Mr Whippy truck back in 1989.

In between all of the laughs, banter and tears, the Saints team unknowingly bonded and became a tighter unit... A tighter and poorer unit. After being badgered to buy raffle tickets and half cooked sausages the fat cats of Mount Roskill Saints got fatter, $950 fatter.

It wasnt long though until a great night turned sour when Tabe "househusband" Voigt's son, young Emmie Voigt - all milked up and rowdy - had to be kindly asked to leave after starting a beef with little Cooper Clark.

However, all in all it was a wonderful day. Grade A organisation, good turnout and brilliant company made for a chipper day. But it is best summed up by words slurred by coach Matt "A.A" Kemp while getting another $3 mac... "oiiee, ahhh boys, boys... this club is fuckin awesome".
